Rare causes :

Some cats suffer from hair loss due to some genes associated with hair loss and this is common in some breeds; examples are; Himalayan cats, and Bengal, and hair loss in these cats is not associated with any diseases; such as diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or cancer, and it is also not a symptom due to a problem in the cat’s immune system.

Alopecia areata disease is also one of the rare conditions that cause hair loss in cats, as gray spots appear on the skin in places of hair loss, and indicate the presence of internal tumors in the cat, and the cause is usually the cat’s infection with pancreatic cancer.

This is not related to a particular breed, but it is related to age, as the majority of cases that have been infected with it are between the ages of 9-16 years, and usually, some symptoms will appear that confirm the cat’s illness as its appetite will decrease and therefore its weight will decrease, in addition to itching and the cat’s constant cleaning of itself.

It should be noted that the appearance of alopecia areata on the skin means that cancer has spread inside her body.

Prevention and treatment of cat hair loss :

If the cat’s hair loss or alopecia is due to a skin disorder, such as skin erosion, thyroid dysfunction, or other hormonal imbalances, treatment can be done with some medications and topical treatments available, but if the hair loss is due to behavioral reasons, the cat can be educated to reduce problems.

Treatment options for these cases may be limited, as there are no proven ways to prevent hair loss in cats, but when you notice that the cat licks her hair, it is preferable to do a skin and hair examination at least once a week and using a toothbrush, the hair can be divided until the sections are examined.

And when you notice scratches on one of the areas, you should pay attention to them, and consult a doctor about providing a safe local treatment, to relieve pain and itching; because once you get rid of the habit of licking, scratching, and biting, the cat will have a better chance of recovery.
