The goliath heron is the largest heron bird, with an average height of 1.4 M when standing, a wingspan of 2 M, and a weight of about 4 kg. this species is found in sub-Saharan Africa.

Places where herons live :

The Heron bird lives in Europe, Asia, and Africa, it can be found in humid habitats, such as rivers, lakes, swamps, rice fields, on the coasts of estuaries, and tidal bodies, where it prefers to be in shallow fresh, brackish or brackish water, and during the winter migrates from northern regions to southern regions.

Reproduction of herons :

The breeding season of the Heron bird starts from the beginning of February until May or the beginning of June, and the Heron is monogamous, that is, it is associated with only one female during the breeding season, as it chooses its nest location at the beginning of breeding and builds it on tall trees, then the female lays 1-10 eggs in the nest every two days, then the parents take turns incubating the eggs 4 times a day for a period ranging from 25-26 days.

The young birds feed by eating food from the mouth of both parents, as one is interested in bringing food, while the other stays in the nest for 20 days, and it is reported that the young become able to fly at the age of 50 days while staying near her parents for another 10-20 days.
